About Me
My path to psychology wasn’t a straight one—it emerged from moments of deep soul-searching. During that time, I kept returning to a college class that had captivated me: The Undiscovered Self. The course explored the mysteries of consciousness, weaving together shamanism, Jungian psychology, medical intuition, and other unconventional perspectives. That fascination with the mind and its infinite complexities led me to pursue a master’s in general psychology, followed by a doctorate in clinical psychology.
Now, with over 20 years of experience, that early curiosity has evolved into a lifelong dedication to helping others make sense of themselves, their pasts, and the challenges that shape them.
I was twenty-six when I began my therapeutic journey with my therapist. I remember a specific moment early on in treatment, it might have occurred on day one, when she looked at me expectantly without saying a word. She leaned in from her chair facing me as I sat on the couch, nonverbally inviting me to speak. I reflexively asked her how she was doing, and she responded in a warm and curious manner, “Are you here to take care of me?”
The way she asked this question invoked an unexpected surge of energy in my body as I had a powerful “Aha” moment.” I was able to get some important distance from myself and observe a long held interpersonal dynamic being played out with my therapist. Within the therapeutic space, I was falling into my default unconscious role as caretaker, ever hypervigilant of the other, often forgetting myself. To truly be seen by another is a remarkable experience. With greater awareness comes the possibility of deep change and breaking out of long-standing patterns.
My Approach
An important foundational goal I have with my clients is to provide them an opportunity to observe themselves and gain greater awareness of their patterns, the origins, and tools for change. It is a collaborative and insight oriented approach. I believe that by understanding the deeper roots of your struggles, we can create new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating- ones that feel more authentic and aligned with who you truly are.
Whether you’re working through childhood trauma, grief, or feelings of disconnection, I’m here to help you make sense of your experiences and move toward a more fulfilling, peaceful life.

“I have gone to a number of therapists and I have found Dr. Cohen to be extremely understanding, patient and insightful compared to others who sit back without really engaging. In our sessions we have explored disruptive behavioral patterns that are resistant to change and beliefs that fuel these patterns. If you want to see your life change for the better, I highly recommend Dr. Cohen.”
